Once each year, seven land-accessible lighthouses along the mid-Maine coast open their towers for the Midcoast Maine Lighthouse Challenge, a two-day self-guided driving tour covering the coastline from Pemaquid Point, tipping the Pemaquid Peninsula dangling south of Damariscotta, to Castine, on the western edge of the Blue Hill peninsula.
Included* are Dyce’s Head Light, Castine; Fort Point, Stockton Springs; Grindle Point Light, Islesboro; Rockland Breakwater Light, Rockland; Owls Head Light, Owls Head; Marshall Point Light, Port Clyde; and Pemaquid Point Light, Pemaquid. Also part of the itinerary is the Maine Lighthouse Museum, Rockland.
Special events include boat cruises and museum exhibits.
And while you’re here … This region is rich in authentic Maine lobster shacks.
*Note: Each lighthouse, museum, activity may have an entry fee.
