According to a story in today’s Portland Press Herald, the lights are ready to shine again at the historical State Theater. Just like a cat, this iconic theater on Portland’s Congress Street keeps coming back to life. It’s a gem, with an architecturally rich interior hiding behind a so-so facade (look over the marquee and spy the windows, that’s a hint). During it’s lowest of low points, the State screened porn. When that era ended, the rebirth of that section of Congress Street began. Here’s hoping someone picks up the lease and starts booking shows again. Me thinks, with the right entertainment, the lessee could be a fat cat. On with the show!
